The heavy rains that have been falling on our country since yesterday have caused a very problematic situation. The Vjosa River has overflowed its banks in the bazaar area, near the Mifoli Bridge, as a result of high water levels. According to the latest data, the level of the Vjosa has reached 6.8 meters above sea level.
Authorities have notified all families living near the river to take precautions and be alert to any potential danger. Meanwhile, flows continue to remain high from the Gjirokastra and Përmet areas, which is directly affecting the further increase in the river level.
The situation is being continuously monitored, while residents are urged to respect the instructions of emergency structures.
The Kotë-Sevaster road in the village of Vajzë has suffered a landslide and is currently blocked. Two houses have collapsed, while fortunately no injuries have been reported. Authorities are calling on residents to avoid movement in this segment and use alternative routes.
Meanwhile, due to heavy rainfall, the national axis Gjirokastër-Kakavijë is blocked in the Kordhoca area, opposite the village of Lazarat. Working groups are on the ground and are working to open the road segment.
In Kurbin, about 8 families have been evacuated, while the flooded area in the entire region is about 2,600 hectares and 150 homes are surrounded by water.
