Heavy rainfall today has caused numerous problems in several regions of the country.
Durrës was paralyzed by floods: main roads, neighborhoods, and the Tirana-Durres highway became impassable. Several schools and markets suspended their activities. Even the first floor of the prison was forced to be evacuated after the water flooded.
Meanwhile, according to the Institute of Geosciences, intense rainfall is expected until Thursday morning.
"It will continue to be critical due to the increased intensity of rainfall, which is mainly focused in the north and south of the country, while in the Gjirokastra and Vlora regions we expect to have intense rainfall and locally it will be very intense ," said Anira Gjoni, IGJEO specialist.
In the regions of Shkodër, Kukës, Dibër, Lezhë, Durrës, Elbasan, Vlorë and Gjirokastër, there may be flash floods of small mountain rivers and landslides.
The problematic situation will continue in the Durrës region, even though the intensity of precipitation is lower.
"The entire Durrës region is expected to continue rainfall throughout today's afternoon and tomorrow, with moderate and locally intense rainfall. This also brings problems for urban centers due to rapid flooding ," the specialist explains.
According to IGJEO's hydrological calculations, as a result of high-intensity rainfall, there will be a dangerous increase in flows and levels in the country's rivers, with the most problematic situation being in the Drin-Buna rivers and Lake Shkodra.
According to IGJEO specialists, temperatures will drop significantly on Thursday and rainfall will be replaced by snowfall.
