An investigation launched three years ago by SPAK in cooperation with French, Dutch and British authorities revealed the activity of a suspected criminal group in international cocaine trafficking, which is also being investigated for money laundering through a construction company in the coveted areas of Tirana and on the coast.
SPAK also announced that it had placed under seizure numerous movable and immovable assets as well as several companies, which are suspected of being financed by income obtained from drug trafficking.
One of the seized companies is Pepa Group - a construction company and significant beneficiary of public funds, which turns out to be linked to the two brothers under indictment, Jetmir and Lulzim Pepa, the first declared wanted and the second arrested.
Jetmir Pepa is not an unknown name to law enforcement. He was declared wanted in January of last year after shooting at a concert in the capital. His arrest has not been possible, while his brother, Lulzim Pepa, 51, has been arrested. Two of the suspects, Anton Kola, 33, and Florian Marku, 34, have also been placed in custody.
According to SPAK, during 2019-2021, this group operated in Latin America, Belgium and the Netherlands, where 8 episodes of cocaine trafficking in large quantities, totaling approximately 6.5 tons, were documented.
According to the Special Prosecution Office, the Pepa brothers had built a business empire with their flagship company, Pepa Group, engaged in the construction business, holder of the concession for hydroelectric power plants and beneficiary of public funds from several municipalities in the country.
Pepa Group was founded by Urim Pepa, the late brother of Jetmir and Lulzim Pepaj, and is currently owned by the deceased's heirs, but is linked to the two accused persons.
SPAK stated that it had placed under preventive seizure 232 movable and immovable assets directly or indirectly owned by the persons under investigation. Specifically, assets and shares of seven companies headquartered in Tirana; in Fierza, Fushë Arrëz Municipality; in the village of Fan Rubik; in Shëngjin and Ishull-Shëngjin, Lezha have been seized.
