After the High Judicial Council decided to increase the reference salary for judges, the High Prosecutorial Council has also made the same decision for the prosecution system.

With 11 votes in favor and none against, the KLP decided that the reference salary would be 222,425 lek, to which 14 thousand lek is added for the level of qualification. In total, the calculation basis amounts to 236,425 lek.

The KLP's decision directly affects only the members of the Council, as their salary is calculated on the basis of the prosecutor's salary. However, the KLP called on the General Prosecutor's Office to apply the same reference salary to prosecutors, but 'de facto' the KLP has also set the prosecutors' salary and is simply requesting a formal decision from the General Prosecutor's Office.

KLP member Erind Mërkuri argued that the decision is forced by the legal vacuum created after the Constitutional Court's decision.

At this moment, there is no longer a legal basis for salary in Albania. Legislation does not proceed by allowing absurdities. The doctrine states that in these cases the legislator's inaction is covered by the decision of the Constitutional Court.

The decisions of the Constitutional Court are final and binding for implementation. I personally represented the Assembly in one case, but of course in this case we must implement the decision of the Constitutional Court. A report has been prepared on this point. The reference salary is the salary of the Prime Minister, the category of general director, (at that time it was the director of the cabinet, today it no longer exists).

"We are obligated by the Constitutional Court to keep the system afloat, as the salary is the basis of functioning ," he said.
