The irresponsibility of a man who risked the burning of Kruja

The fire that swept through the Kruja Mountains yesterday, endangering around 30 homes, is suspected to have started after a resident of the area lit a quantity of grass near his home.

In the first hours, the situation was dealt with by local structures, while only during the evening was the extent of the danger created by the spread of the flames evident.

The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, the Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, and the Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi, also arrived at the scene by plane.

According to data from the Kruja Police Station, at around 2:30 p.m., the operations room reported a large-scale fire in the "Abazaj" neighborhood, which then spread towards the Kruja mountain, near the "Horizont" restaurant. 

An evacuation order was also issued in these areas, giving priority to children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and families located in isolated areas.

The vehicles and structures of the Krujë Municipality, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the State Police and the Armed Forces were deployed to evacuate the residents.

Verifications conducted by the police revealed that Qemal Haxhi Berhami, born on September 19, 1952 and residing in Abazaj, had burned a quantity of grass near his apartment.

"Today, on 08.08.2026, at around 14:30, we were notified by the operational room that a large fire had broken out in the Abaze Kruje neighborhood and then on the Kruje mountain near the Horizont Restaurant.

"On our part, verifications and procedural actions were carried out, which resulted in the citizen Qemal Haxhi Berhami, born on September 19, 1952, resident of Abaze Kruje, burning a quantity of grass near his apartment and then the fire spread towards the mountain due to the wind," the Police announced.

This case shows once again what a person's irresponsibility can do.

It could even burn down an entire city!
