Fatos Nano continues to be in serious health condition. The media reports that the doctors who are following the former prime minister have changed their strategy. They removed him from intubation and decided to supply him with oxygen through a tube that connects directly to the trachea, a procedure known as a Tracheostomy. Doctors have made an intervention by opening the upper respiratory tract. Through this tube located in the neck, the passage of air and oxygen to the lungs is allowed through the respiratory apparatus.
This is a necessary procedure in patients requiring prolonged artificial ventilation. According to doctors, he is conscious but cannot articulate.
Fatos Nano was admitted to the private hospital on August 24.
On Wednesday evening, the former prime minister was intubated again, but this procedure did not improve his condition. So the doctors decided to apply Tracheostomy.
Fatos Nano suffers from respiratory failure, the insufficiency of the lungs to function normally. The former prime minister has a chronic respiratory problem that in medical language is known as COPD, which means the inability of the lungs to perform their function.
Within this year, he has been hospitalized several times to receive medical services.
As Fatos Nano is facing a difficult health situation, Prime Minister Edi Rama honored him with a medal for public recognition, appreciating his contribution as the former prime minister of the country.
Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha also wished a speedy recovery to the historical leader of the SP, Fatos Nano.
"With all sincerity and with all my heart, I wish Fatos Nano a speedy and complete recovery! Let him overcome this difficult situation and return to his family", said Berisha today.
Fatos Nano has been prime minister of the country 3 times in different periods. He left power in 2005 and, as a result, from the leadership of the party.
