Sajmir Beca

The tragic end of 30-year-old Albanian Sajmir Beca has left behind much sadness and question marks.

He lost his life in November last year in the United Kingdom after he had crawled into a garbage can to spend the night because he was homeless and was picked up by a garbage truck.

In a hearing held this week, the truck driver described the horrific event, saying that he has been living in nightmares for a long time.

He said he checked the bins but saw only one cardboard box, then loaded the bin into the garbage truck. After emptying it and turning on the button that makes the metal blade move, he said he heard loud screams.

He immediately stopped him and called the ambulance. The young Albanian was transported to the hospital, but a few days later he died from his injuries.

His family traveled from Albania to the UK to follow the investigation, but the court has ruled this an accidental case.

Speaking outside court, the family's lawyer Fabjola Aruci said: "The family has many unanswered questions, for example why Beca was in a trash can, but they will seek justice for Sajmir until the end."

The family described Sajmir as a person who radiated kindness and who only sought to make the lives of others better, but whose life was unfortunately cut short too soon.
