As of this Friday, May 1, Albania and Kosovo have officially restored the border control-free regime for vehicles with license plates from both countries. The measure will be in effect until September 30 and is expected to significantly ease movement during the summer season, when the flow of travelers increases significantly.

According to the agreement, vehicles with Albanian and Kosovo license plates will cross the border points without stops and standard control procedures. Meanwhile, vehicles with foreign license plates will face only quick checks, to avoid delays and long lines, especially at Morinë–Vërmicë.

The easing of the crossing is being restored after a two-month interruption, as full controls were implemented during March and April. Even during that period, weekends and official holidays continued with a simplified regime for citizens of Albania and Kosovo.

This model of cooperation between the two countries has brought visible benefits over the years, especially in the summer, boosting tourism, family visits, and trade exchanges.

According to official data, in the early hours of Friday alone, around 20,000 citizens entered Albania, most from Kosovo.
