The trial on the merits of the "Metamorphosis" case began today at the Special Court (GJKKO), following the decision issued by the Constitutional Court that paves the way for the admission of messages in encrypted applications as evidence.

Lawyers for businessman Pëllumb Gjoka have asked for time, and have asked to wait until the full decision of the Constitutional Court is revealed. Their request was accepted by the judicial body.

The hearing was postponed to January 21, while the detention periods were also suspended. The GJKKO also accepted the request of former commissioner Ardit Hasabegaj, who asked for time to familiarize himself with the acts.

Businessman Pëllub Gjoka is being defended by lawyers Ylli Manjani and Gurali Brahimllari.

Prosecutor Altin Dumani requested that the judicial review continue and that the victims of the criminal offense be notified, as the court has exhausted all legal avenues.

The lawyer for former police chief Adrit Hasanbegaj requested a postponement of the hearing for procedural reasons, in order to have contact with the client and an effective defense.

At the end of the discussions, the next session was set for January 21, and the defendants' pre-trial detention terms were finally suspended, to avoid procedural complications or the expiration of these terms.
