The Director of the Shkodra Police, Fatmir Lleshaj, provided details at a press conference today regarding the serious incident in Dragoç, Shkodra, where  Ramazan Mataj , 33, was killed.

The director reports that Mataj was killed by Arjon Hasaj , a 29-year-old resident of Dragoç.

The reason for this was that the victim had broken off his marriage with Hasaj's sister.

For this reason, Hasaj had created a fake profile on social networks to ambush the victim.

He was also helped in this by his brother, Klisman Hasaj , who also hid the murder weapon.

The full speech of the Shkodra police director, Fatmir Lleshaj:

I am here today, together with the Deputy Director for Criminal Investigation Ledio Ibrahimi and the District Prosecutor Albert Murçaj, to present the results of an intensive investigative work carried out within the framework of the police operation codenamed "Fake Profile", to uncover the authorship of the event that occurred on 05.01.2025, in the village of Dragoç, where citizen Ramazan Mataj, 33 years old, was shot dead.

 The Shkodra Local Police Directorate, immediately after being notified of the incident that occurred in the village of Dragoç, set up a special investigative group and, together with numerous services of the Shkodra Police, the National Security Force, Shkodra Unit, and the Shkodra Border and Migration Directorate, went to the scene.

Police services, after quick action at the scene, escorted many citizens to the Police premises to question them about the incident. 

Meanwhile, the investigative group, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, in coordination with the Criminal Police Department, specifically with the Directorate for the Investigation of Serious Crimes and the Directorate for the Investigation of Cybercrimes, continued to work intensively to find and capture material evidence that would serve the investigation to unravel the incident.

As a result of an intensive investigation lasting several days, within the framework of the police operation codenamed "Fake Profile", the investigative group found important evidence that led to the clarification of the incident, the identification, capture and arrest of the perpetrator. Also, during the operation, the mechanism of the incident was clarified, documented and with several film footage showing the perpetrator walking on the street. 

The investigation revealed that citizen Arjon Hasaj, 29 years old, resident of Dragoç, for weak motives, organized and committed the murder of citizen Ramazan Mataj. The 29-year-old, through fake accounts on social networks, communicated with citizen Ramazan Mataj, to ambush him in the village of Dragoç, where he is suspected of killing him. 

Also, the investigations suspect that citizen Ramazan Mataj had influenced the breakdown of the marital relationship of the author's sister. 

The suspected perpetrator was assisted by his brother, citizen Klisman Hasaj, in providing the conditions to commit the murder and hide the crime weapon.  

As a result of the checks, it was possible to find the firearm with which the perpetrator is suspected of having committed the murder. After the crime, the two brothers hid the weapon in a wooded area and then buried it in the ground in the yard of the apartment.   

At the conclusion of the investigations, the following citizens were arrested:

Arjon Hasaj, for the criminal offenses of "Premeditated Murder" and "Unlicensed Production and Possession of Weapons, Explosive Weapons and Combat Ammunition";

Klisman Hasaj, for the criminal offense of "Providing conditions and material means to commit murder".

Under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, investigations continue for the full legal documentation of this event.

We emphasize the fact that after the incident, many messages from citizens have been sent to the Shkodra Police Department for cooperation and support, as well as information, which, despite its validity, was encouraging for the intensive work that the Police carried out to shed light on this event with public impact.

I thank the citizens for their support and trust, and I want to assure them that the Shkodra District Police is fully committed to intensifying investigations in cooperation with the Prosecution Office, to shed light on the criminal events that occurred previously, and to identifying and arresting the perpetrators.

I guarantee the citizens that the Shkodra Local Police Directorate, with the support of the General Directorate of the State Police and the Shkodra Prosecutor's Office, is maximally committed to guaranteeing the security and protection of the lives and property of citizens.

Wishing the citizens of the Shkodra region a prosperous year, I invite them once again to trust and support the regional and Border Police more, so that together we can prevent criminal incidents and illegality, to create a new image for this region, which symbolizes citizenship and guarantees a safer environment for the future of our children.
