From the arrest of Messina to Falconen and Borsellino, the Italian journalist:
Italian journalist Salvatore Cusimano speaking about VAT

The well-known Italian journalist Salvatore Cusimano has stated for RTSH that the arrest of the mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro after 30 years on the run, closes a bloody and dramatic page in the history of Italy. Cusimano said that the last exponent of the Corleone mafia wing should answer for all the crimes he has committed.

"Matteo's arrest is closing a bloody, dramatic page in Italy's history, because he is the last exponent of the Corleone mafia wing of Salvatore Riina, boss of bosses in '93, this arrest of his is closing that page. He must answer for everything he has done, for the massacres of '93 and many, many crimes. We can recall here that of a child not more than 10 years old, it was the child of an associate of justice, he kidnapped and then killed him, the third in acid. A powerful man that he knew how to surround with a large network, and he had many impreditors, and he was very involved in constructions, electricity, super markets and got rich. It is said that today he has a fortune of 4-6 million euros.

His arrest does not mean that it was the end of the mafia, that the mafia will continue to exist. Because in Sicily, we have the development of this country. After 1992-1993 after the massacres, we have a rebellion of our consciences, an awareness of the role of the mafia to create this underdevelopment" , said the well-known Italian journalist, as he further stated that today's mafia is not so powerful and terrorist than that of the 90s.

Stopping at Ndrangheta, Cusimano said that it is one of the most powerful, from the way it interacts, not only in Italy but also with Albanian criminality.

"Thanks to those sacrifices of the judges, Italy has in hand a legislative and parliamentary instrument, to oppose the mafia correctly and become the capital of the anti-mafia. It is not true that the Sicilian mafia is weaker today compared to the 90s, but it is connected to politics, corrupt politicians, connected to the secret services, to freemasonry. There is a large network of entrepreneurs who belong here. They continue this part. We have that worker, the little ones who distribute drones.

Today's mafia is not as powerful and terrorist as in the 90's. We have Ndragheta, who is one of the most powerful, from the way she interacts, not only in Italy but also abroad, she also cooperates with criminality and with the Albanian one, " he said.

The well-known journalist then stopped at the two magistrates who revealed the secrets of the mafia in the 1980s, Paolo Borsellino and Giovanni Falcone. Cusimano says that they were often lonely, while he appreciated their sacrifice in the fight against the mafia.

"I know Falcone and Borselino very well, I worked with them, I followed the processes they did in the 80s until a few months ago. I appreciated their sacrifice and how they fought the mafia. They were often lonely. Now we have an awareness in the Italian public opinion, but this is not enough. The Mafia has been instrumental in maintaining the status quo to maintain a political balance. It has also been used by the secret services and right-wing extremist groups to maintain this and be in the leadership of our country. In the coming months when the investigations are carried out, we will know more. Denaro will manage to agree to cooperate with justice. His arrest is an act of justice against those thousands of people who have given their lives in this endless war since the 80s, a thousand dead ," he added.

Asked further if Albanians are active in the criminal events in Italy, the Italian journalist emphasized that Albania takes part in the investigations of the massacres of '92.

"Albania is involved in drug trafficking, it also has contacts with Ngragheta. But Albania also takes part in these investigations of those massacres of '92. When he was in prison, he was talking to a prisoner about an Albanian, an explosives expert who had contributed to this massacre", said the Italian journalist.
