Twelve years ago, the protester Aleks Nika was killed, hit by the bullets of the Republic Guard.
A little further on the boulevard, 3 more protesters were killed. On the eve of the twelfth of January 21, the family of Aleks Nika has sent a letter to the highest leaders in the country stating that there is no political will to punish this state crime.
The Nika family starts a letter, written by the Tch journalist, Muhamed Veliu, with the disappointment towards all the Albanian institutions and the diplomatic corps to bring to justice those who executed their relative.
"This state crime is not considered to be the competence of the SPAK investigation and is under investigation by the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana. This happens because there is a complete lack of political will to unravel this serious crime, until the moment it is prescribed as it happened and in many other cases for serious state crimes where important politicians were involved and escaped punishment".
The family of Aleks Nika insists that this murder should be investigated by SPAK.
"We have insisted that the criminal case be transferred to the competence of SPAK and investigated in the direction of those who ordered those who gave the order to shoot, without any legal reason, against the demonstrators in the middle of the boulevard. This is done with the sole purpose that all politicians who are implicated in this criminal activity, directly and indirectly with very serious consequences, are not brought to criminal responsibility".
Faced with delayed justice, which is justice denied, the Nika family says:
"As a family, we feel deceived both by Albanian politics and by the diplomatic corps. Our patience is wearing thin. We ask once again that the Albanian public opinion overcomes the lack of political will of this entire political class. We do not forget the blood of the son, the father of the children."
On January 21, 2011, the socialist opposition called a protest after the publication of a video on the Fiks Fare show, where Ilir Meta, then deputy prime minister, in the Berisha government appeared with a black pad in his hand, making bargains with the late former minister Dritan The priest. The protesters faced the bullets of the Guard of the Republic, where besides Alex Nika, Hekuran Deda, Ziver Veizi and Faik Myrtajt were also killed.
The only ones convicted for this crime of 12 years ago are the former commander of the Republic Guard Ndrea Prendi with one year in prison and guard Agim Llupo with three years in prison. The murder of Aleks Nika, 12 years later, continues to remain without a perpetrator.
