The former senior FBI official, Charles McGonigal, is one of the most popular names in the Albanian and international media. After allegedly working with a US-sanctioned Russian oligarch after retirement and hiding hundreds of thousands of dollars received from a former Albanian service official while he was still in office.

But the  New York Times recently  wrote that there is no indication that Gonigal worked for Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska while in office. So this charge against Mc Gonigal can be dropped since there is no proof of his connection with the Russian oligarch while he was the head of the counter-intelligence department at the FBI.

As for the accusations in Albania, the Albanian opposition has also done its due regarding the corruption of McGonigal by Agron Neza, an Albanian-American businessman (former employee of the Albanian intelligence during the communist period) on behalf of Prime Minister Rama, in the indictment of the American authorities there is no mention of corruption but for failure to declare income by the former FBI official.

" There is no indication in the Manhattan indictment that Mr. McGonigal worked for Oleg Deripaska while still employed by the FBI .

The case is still under investigation, and a parallel indictment in Washington accusing Mr. McGonigal of taking at least $225,000 in secret payments from a former employee of an Albanian intelligence service while still at the agency has raised questions about how compromised he may be. he was in this matter " - it is said, among other things, in the article of the American newspaper. /New York Times
