The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has reacted following the loss of life of a pregnant mother and her baby.

Through a statement, the Ministry expressed its most sincere condolences to the victim's family. The Ministry of Health announced that it is following the treatment and management of the case with full responsibility.

The Ministry has requested a full and independent assessment of the entire healthcare process in the case. The assessment will include the period from the patient's presentation to the completion of treatment. The Ministry emphasized its commitment to finding those responsible for the incident.

"If irregularities or deficiencies are identified, the necessary measures will be taken in accordance with the law and professional standards," the response states.

"The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare expresses its deep regret for the loss of patient MK's life and extends its most sincere condolences to her family and relatives.

Out of respect for the family and at this painful moment, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports is following with full responsibility all steps related to the treatment and management of this case.

The Ministry has requested a full and independent assessment of case management, with the aim of a professional and impartial assessment of the entire healthcare process, from the patient's presentation to the completion of treatment.

Our commitment is complete to guarantee transparency and accountability. Any findings on the case management assessment will be analyzed with the utmost seriousness and, if irregularities or shortcomings in the case follow-up are identified, all necessary measures will be taken, in accordance with the law and professional standards.

"Maternal safety and the guarantee of timely, quality obstetric care in accordance with established standards are non-negotiable responsibilities of the health system," the ministry stated.

Today, a 37-year-old pregnant woman lost her life while being transported to Tirana, where she was being sent for medical treatment. The woman had initially presented herself at the Pogradec Hospital due to health problems.

After examinations and consultations, doctors decided to transfer her to the capital. During the transport, near Elbasan, the 37-year-old's health condition deteriorated and the woman lost her life.

It is suspected that the woman may have suffered internal bleeding. She was about 7 months pregnant. Unfortunately, her baby also died.
