The world has lost its oldest person.
Brazilian nun Inah Canabarro Lucas has died at the age of 116, in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil, where she lived in a house of the Teresian Sisters, the religious community that accompanied her throughout her life.
Born on June 8, 1908 in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Sister Inah became a nun in her 20s and attributed her longevity to her faith in God, declaring that "He is the secret of life."
She was blessed by Pope Francis in 2018 and was known for her calm character, good humor and love of football.
Passionate about the Brazilian team Sport Club Internacional, she celebrated her birthday every year with a cake in the shape of her favorite team's stadium, and on her 116th birthday she appeared wearing an Internacional scarf.
The sports club posted a message of condolence, describing her life as filled with kindness, faith and love for sport, writes the BBC.
According to relatives and the nuns who accompanied her, Inah had not suffered from serious illnesses and maintained her health until the end, despite difficulties with her vision and hearing in recent years.
She had only had one surgical procedure in her life, a cataract operation at the age of 106.
Her lifestyle was orderly and disciplined.
"She woke up, ate, prayed and slept at the same time every day," her family told Brazilian media.
Following the passing of Sister Inah, the title of the oldest living person in the world passes to 115-year-old Ethel Caterham from Surrey, England.
