American investigators in New York suspect that the death of Florind Belliu and his wife Ornella was not part of a suicide pact, but a fight that turned deadly, police sources said, American media write.

Their neighbors suspect that the Albanian couple argued before they died.

"Someone said there was shouting. I saw a bag on the fire escape, maybe she was trying to leave," said Steve Iurilli, 63 years old.

Porter Harold Johnson, 60, noticed something was wrong with the 35-year-old the night before the tragic event.

"I saw him last night, I said, 'are you okay?', because his eyes were wide open. His eyes were really wide, like he was angry.”

A nearby construction worker heard the couple fall and ran to see what happened, neighbor Frank Mussemeci recalled.

"He was drinking coffee there," Mussemeci, 50, said. "And they heard a loud noise like a piece of steel hitting the ground, like 'boom.'"

As soon as the bodies were discovered outside there was so much noise that neighbor Alba Rivera, 67, thought the building was on fire.

"Come here!" the construction worker yelled, Mussemeci recalled. "People just fell from the building!".

A child was heard shouting “Mommy! Mom!” seconds after the noise, Mussemeci said.

Resto, 28, initially thought what he heard was a car crash.

"My neighbor went to throw out the trash and she saw them there. I hope I never see this again. My heart goes out to them," said the shocked resident.

Neighbors said the couple lived there with their young sons, who were inside the apartment when the incident happened.

"They were super good kids, two little boys. They were playing with my puppy two days ago. The parents were really nice too. The woman was super nice. The guy was a little reserved, but a nice family." neighbor Giovanni Resto told the Daily News.
