Dritan Shoraj in 2018 was transformed from a respected professor at the University of Tirana into a drug trafficker of the Albanian cartel responsible for selling several kilograms of cocaine between Milan and Venice.
Four years later the indictment for which he was arrested was dropped in the Trento Court of Appeals, which acquitted him "of not committing a crime".
This means that it was never Dritan Shoraj, the person accused of being a drug trafficker. What happened will be known after seventy days, when the judges of Trentino will present the reasons for the sentence imposed yesterday. " I was destroyed. " I was entering my university class and I found myself in prison ," recalls Professor Shoraj.
How the professor was arrested:
One kilogram of cocaine bought and sold in the Sandonatese area on May 2, 2000: this was the charge that led the professor to a (final) sentence of 4 years and 20 days in prison.
According to the architecture designed by the Carabinieri operation "Pineta" - which in 2000 managed to "cut off the head" of the leaders of a branch of the Italian-Albanian organization that ended with over 128 sentences - between 1998 and 2000 Professor Shoraj was part of a tour to find drugs in Albania and organize sea transport to Italy.
In the early 2000s, Shoraj had returned to his homeland where he had built a career on every possible suspicion. Thus, one after another, a diploma, a doctorate, a master's degree in "Business Administration and the last prestigious step, the Department of Economics at the University of Tirana" arrived.
