In the next session in the Special Court against Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi, the defense continued with its objections to the evidence presented by SPAK, requesting the invalidation of several investigative acts and the receipt of new evidence.
Monika Kryemadhi's lawyer, Redi Llanaj, during the presentation of the defense arguments, stated that the accusation against the former MP has no criminal basis and claimed that SPAK itself has admitted that the purchase of the villa is not related to corruption.
"SPAK itself admits that there is no corruption in the purchase of the villa. This issue is not legal, but political. There is no criminal fact here. The prosecutor has become a tool...", said Llanaj.
After this statement, the judge in the case, Erion Bani, drew the lawyer's attention not to violate the solemnity of the session with such terminology. Llanaj responded that the use of the word "tool" was not offensive, arguing that it meant "instrument."
New financial expertise requested for the Meta-Kryemadhi couple.
One of the main requests of the defense was the performance of a new accounting expertise on the income of the couple Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi over the years.
According to Llanaj, the expertise conducted during the investigation is biased and cannot be used as evidence.
"This act, for us, is totally one-sided and should be considered unusable and invalid. We have submitted an expert report that opposes this act. I think this is the moment to make this request, to appoint an independent expert or a group of experts, because it is essential evidence," said the lawyer.
Defense seeks witnesses in Vodafone case
Llanaj also requested the questioning of Adrian Shatku in the matter related to an alleged international interconnection contract between his company UNIFI and Vodafone Albania.
According to SPAK, communications found on Monika Kryemadhi's phone show that she and Ilir Meta were engaged in helping to achieve this agreement. The file mentions communications and meetings with Vodafone Albania executives, as well as conversations with Shatku about the progress of the negotiations.
The defense claims that Shatku's testimony is important in clarifying the circumstances of this agreement.
"We have requested the testimony of Mr. Shatku. No attempt has been made to obtain his testimony. We request that his testimony be obtained by registered letter. There are several elements that can be clarified from his testimony, such as the manner of his acquaintance with Kryemadhi, who initiated the contract with Vodafone and whether Ms. Kryemadhi could have conducted this negotiation," said Llanaj.
The lawyer also sought the testimony of a South African citizen, mentioned in the communications found by SPAK.
"SPAK has found a photo of a card from the phone and attributes the use of this card to the defendant Monika Kryemadhi. It would be of interest for him to explain this part," he stated.
According to the defense, this person's testimony could clarify whether Kryemadhi had a real role in the negotiations with Vodafone and whether he had the authority to mediate this agreement.
Testimony from other politicians and officials is requested
. Following the defense's requests, Redi Llanaj requested that several other people be heard in the process, including Esmeralda Shkjau, Vali Bizhga, Prime Minister Edi Rama, former Minister of Energy and Industry Damian Gjiknuri, as well as MPs who have proposed amendments to Law No. 134/2014.
According to the lawyer, this evidence would help clarify issues related to the charges brought against Kryemadhi.
