Another vehicle ended up in the waters of the "Butrint Canal" today, marking the second case in 8 days and with two foreign tourists as protagonists.
The incident happened at around 05:00 in the morning, when the driver of the rented vehicle lost control and ended up in the waters of the village of Vrin. The two people were traveling towards Saranda, after crossing the border.
According to police sources, there were two people inside the vehicle, who were able to swim out without damage. The police of Saranda immediately went to the place of the incident, where they started the investigation.
It is reported that the vehicle that fell into the water was a "Fiat" type, with license plate AA 459 RL and driven by foreign national Patryk Sajnog. He was subjected to the alcohol test, where the first time it was 0.906 mg/l and then 0.894 mg/l. He also turns out to be without a driver's license. For this reason, he was arrested by the police for drunkenness and lack of driver's license. A few hours later, the vehicle was pulled out of the water with a crane by fire brigade workers and blue uniforms in action.
The police have started criminal proceedings against the driver, as they also interrogated him for violating traffic rules. Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties.
