The second outbreak of plague of small ruminants (small cattle) has been confirmed in the Korça region.
Authorities confirm that the tests have come back positive for one of the farms in the village of Shkoze in the municipality of Maliq, where more than 180 heads will be buried.
" The laboratory results confirmed the second outbreak, which is located in the village of Shkoze in the Maliq Municipality. Currently, about 110 woolly animals will be eliminated today, every farm that tests positive will have all the animals eliminated. This disease is not compensated by the state since it occurs for the first time in Albania, I think it should help. The risk is, we have taken measures, here there are almost 2000 small animals that are at risk ," says Demirali Latollari.
The farmer who owns the infected farm indicates that the damage is colossal, to the point that he has no choice but to commit suicide if he is not helped by the state.
" Over 180 will be buried. The damage is very great, it is incalculable. We need a little help, we have our bread with this. This is the only job we deal with. I am on the street, I am in debt. If they don't help, I will dig the next hole for myself, " says farmer Enkel Shkembasi.
Veterinary authorities say the situation is under control, although the estimated damage is large.
