The court hearing for the murder of former police officer Santiago Malko, an event that occurred in August 2019 in the Xhamlliku area of ​​Tirana, was held today at the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime.

The defendants in this trial are Leonard Duka, Erlis Duka, Fatmir Hyseni, Aleksandër Maxhaku and Oltian Loga, accused of being part of a criminal group that allegedly planned and executed Malko, known as Ervis Martinaj's "right-hand man".

At this hearing, Leonard Duka's father, Muhamet Duka, was expected to testify, but he did not appear due to health problems. His lawyer submitted a medical report to the court.

Meanwhile, Leonard Duka has given his testimony, denying that he had an account on the “Sky ECC” application. He stated that he did not have one, does not know anything about the codes and has not had contact with people who have used this application. Regarding a photo found in “Sky” communications, Duka stated that it is not him in the image.

Following the testimony, Duka admitted that he had met Ervis Martinaj, but denied having any other communications with him. SPAK representative, Behar Dibra, asked Leonard Duka several more questions, including about his father, but he stated that his father had no problems.

Duke: No.

Duka: My father had no problems.
The prosecution has submitted new evidence to the file, including communications leaked to "Sky ECC", which it says reinforce the links between Leonard Duka and Ervis Martinaj.

A tense moment occurred in the courtroom when Santiago Malko's mother burst into accusations and was escorted out of the courtroom. "I will never forgive you for the blood of my son, I will kill him! Bury my son in the ground," she was heard saying through tears. The hearing was adjourned and the court ordered a repeat of the summons for Muhamet Duka, Leonard Duka's father, to appear and testify at the next hearing.

The rape of the Duka brothers' father is suspected to be the 'cause' of the enmity between former friends Duka-Martinaj, which further escalated into a bloody conflict. Investigations and testimonies show that Malko had beaten the Duka brothers' father and the situation had further denigrated, as the former policeman was described as a supporter of the 'gambling king', Ervis Martinaj, who has been missing since August 8, 2022 without a trace.
