The Italian police have executed 16 precautionary measures issued by the investigating judge.
The investigation, which has lasted for more than a week, has targeted a network of drug traffickers operating between Pescara, Montesilvano and Albania for a criminal activity that allegedly generated over 150,000 euros in monthly income.
Of the 16 precautionary measures, nine people have been remanded in custody and seven under house arrest. The preliminary investigation judge issued the orders at the request of the Deputy Public Prosecutor of Pescara, who coordinated and directed all the investigations.
" MareMagnum ", is the name of the important operation that resulted from a complex investigative activity carried out by the Carabinieri of Pescara, launched in March 2024, enabling the collection of evidence against numerous citizens believed to be involved, in various capacities, in a complex drug trafficking system.
This activity involved not only Pescara, but also Montesilvano and other provinces throughout the country, with repercussions extending as far as Albania.
Particular attention was paid to the so-called "Pescara elite", where people under investigation were placed under surveillance in connection with drug use.
This revealed a well-structured criminal network, linked to individuals of Italian and Albanian nationality, who had created a network of relationships useful for drug trafficking.
Thanks to a thorough and methodical investigation, investigators managed to reconstruct the entire drug trafficking chain, from the lowest levels to the top of the organization, identifying and reconstructing the operational nodes.
Undoubtedly active figures in various sectors of the city's economic life, entrepreneurs of various kinds, professionals (lawyers, doctors) and restaurant owners, were allegedly targeted by a large and increasingly organized group of drug traffickers.
The criminal organization, which was characterized by a fragmented but highly interconnected structure, included a diverse group of individuals: from highly dangerous criminals to street vendors, as well as a large and consolidated group of consumers.
Drug trafficking, particularly cocaine, is said to have occurred mainly in the nightlife areas of Pescara, in several residential complexes in Montesilvano and within public institutions such as restaurants and beach resorts in the Adriatic capital, frequented by members of the "Pescara elite".
What was created was a complex drug trafficking network, characterized by a modus operandi based on continuity, discretion and an almost family-like management of the drug trade. Thanks to a constant flow of daily sales, the managers of the criminal network would have earned over 150,000 euros in income per month.
Illegal traffickers, who apparently did not hesitate to use strong tactics to force them to pay for drug shipments or to exercise their authority within the drug trafficking network.
Some of the suspects are already known to law enforcement authorities, through previous criminal cases; others, however, mostly regular users, are said to have come under scrutiny due to their social position and economic prestige.
The investigation, which lasted more than a year, led to the seizure by the Carabinieri of large quantities of narcotics, in particular 2 kilograms of cocaine, the reporting of numerous users and the arrest of several people, including those under investigation today.
The Carabinieri emphasize that: " The evidence collected is based significantly, although not exclusively, on the interception of conversations between the persons present, both telephone and electronic. These are tools recognized by current legislation as primary and essential sources of evidence, especially in criminal contexts such as drug trafficking, which is often characterized by silent operations, the absence of external manifestations and a widespread climate of silence that amplifies its social danger ."/ Il Pescara
