The Special Court Against Organized Crime and Corruption has postponed the preliminary hearing on whether or not the Elbasan incinerator file will be passed for trial.
The reason for the postponement of today's session was the volume of claims according to the court, as the next session is scheduled to be held on February 21.
In this Tuesday's session, the lawyers contested the accusations of the prosecution against the defendants, while the court reserved a few days until the announcement of the decision.
Former Minister of Environment Lefter Koka has said that the process is rigged and the charges against him are political. His lawyer, Fatmir Braka, has requested that the two charges against Koka be dropped, that of abuse of office and money laundering.
The former socialist deputy Alqi Blako was also in a similar line, who stated that he had no role and that the members of the commission called for the entire concession. Blako further claimed his innocence, stressing that he has followed the law.
The request to send the case to trial was submitted to the court in December 2022, but some hearings have been postponed due to lawyers.
