The Special Court rejects the request of Ilir Beqaj and Ermal Kurtulaj to reduce the security measure from "prison arrest" to "house arrest".
The judge in the case accepted the prosecution's request to extend the investigation and detention periods for the accused by 3 months.
During the hearing, former SASPAC director Ilir Beqaj and defense attorney Ermal Yzeiraj agreed with the extension of the investigative deadlines and requested that additional investigations be conducted, but in the meantime insisted on changing the security measure.
According to the court, the measure cannot be changed at this stage, as there are suspicions that the suspects may leave the territory.
Ilir Beqaj, Ermal Kurtulaj and Alfred Nikollaj were arrested on July 4 of this year by order of SPAK, in connection with the investigation into the SASPAC file, where Beqaj is suspected of having abused European Union funds while he was at the head of this agency.
