German authorities have seized 280 kilograms of cocaine trafficked from a South American cargo ship after a raid at the port of Brake, in the Wesermarsch district.
The special forces of the Central Criminal Investigation Department in Oldenburg have arrested six suspects, including Albanians.
Three divers were also arrested on suspicion of attempting to recover cocaine near the port of Brake in northwestern Germany, which is part of the European Union's trans-European transport network. Several people were also arrested on Monday morning after several house searches on suspicion of illegally importing the drug into Germany.
Among the suspects, aged between 38 and 65, are Romanians, Albanians and Colombians, the Hanover Customs Investigation Office announced in a press release with the police and prosecutor's office in Oldenburg.
Three divers entered the water on the night of March 3, 2025 to seize the narcotics. Shortly thereafter, special forces arrested six people, including the three divers. Several drug packages totaling 280 kilograms of cocaine were found in the hull of the ship.
The suspects have been brought before a judge and four of the six people have already been arrested. Further investigations, led by the Oldenburg Public Prosecutor's Office, are ongoing.
