Almost 9 million euros per year to cover the costs of 4 and 5 star hotel facilities, also with private beaches, intended to host 295 policemen and carabinieri in Albania.
This is what the Italian media write, referring to the Ministry of the Interior in Italy, regarding the rental of rooms for Italian agents involved in the management of immigration detention centers in Shengjin and Gjadër, which are also empty due to the decision of judges in Rome.
The media write that according to the documents of the Department of Public Security, the contract with the winner provides "an accommodation service in single hotel rooms with catering and similar services for a duration of 12 months for a maximum expenditure estimated at 8,897,200 Euros".
According to the Italian media, the Ministry of the Interior has carried out a series of preliminary checks to exclude the connection of structures with criminal circles.
The media write that 295 policemen and carabinieri will be accommodated in two structures, 4 and 5 stars, with swimming pool, private beach, wellness center and obviously restaurant. The daily cost of services is 80 euros for each agent and the agreement will last 12 months "for the needs related to the operation of the reception centers".
All this has caused another attack on the Meloni Government.
Gennarino De Fazio, General Secretary of Uilpa, says that while "the contracting company will make available to the operators two hotels with a private beach, wellness center, swimming pool and restaurant", the Ministry of Justice "continues to keep members of the penitentiary police in prefabs employed in the direction of the IEVP in Gjadër", which is described as a structure without the most elementary furnishings.
Angelo Bonelli, spokesperson for Green Europe, has a harsher reaction, as he says: "Giorgia Meloni, who makes mistakes with the calculator, has succeeded in Albania in pitting the state police against the prison police. 295 state police officers will stay in 4-5 star hotels, while 46 prison officers will sleep in containers.
All this, says Bonelli, is the result of Prime Minister Meloni's propaganda, which spends over 10 million euros on this madness, cutting funds for public health, schools, social services and public transport.
Other opposition leaders are on the same line.
"It is a scandal, perpetuated even to the detriment of Italian citizens", denounces the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein. According to her, the agreement with Albania continues to cause damage.
Agents, Schlein continues, would be much more useful in Italy, where they are not put in the best conditions to do their work. "The truth is that we are facing a failure that weighs on the pockets and conscience of Italians," she said.
For Alfonso Colucci, head of the M5 group in the Constitutional Affairs Commission, "the police forces need much more, namely salary increases, technical equipment. Citizens demand greater security and legality, they are paying today for the documentary films of the Meloni government, while at the same time essential services are being cut and new taxes are imposed".
The Department of Public Security announced that the figure of 9 million is the projected maximum, which would only be spent if the entire projected quota of security personnel was used.
General expenses, underlines the Ministry of the Interior, depend on the actual number of employed staff. The choice of structures, it is clarified, was made "taking into account the standards indicated by the union agreements".
