Footage is being published on social networks when Albanian immigrants try to remove electronic bracelets from their ankles, reports 'DailyMail'.
It comes after the Home Secretary said she would not rule out expanding the use of electronic tracking devices for asylum seekers arriving on British shores. She said the government was looking at it as one of a "range of options" as concerns grow over capacity at immigration centres.
And so, Albanian immigrants share videos removing ankle tags with scissors.
The Telegraph reports that a man, who was asked: 'Where are the police?' jokingly replies: 'At the police station, lol. I took it off myself.'
Another person appeared unfazed by the warning that removing the tags could result in 28 days in jail, calling it "nothing".
Albanians made up 28 percent of foreign offenders on tags in 2022, according to data obtained by the Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration.
Plans first put forward a year ago to tag migrants arriving illegally in small boats are now under fresh scrutiny as Rishi Sunak tries to get a grip on immigration and stop people gaining entry to Britain illegally .
Immigrants can be tracked by real-time GPS and required to report by text message or in person to immigration officers several times a day. Any attempt to remove the tag and escape would result in the automatic withdrawal of any right to bail or to remain in Britain.
