The use of palm oil in products of animal origin has become a massive behavior of milk, butter and cheese producers, causing serious problems in the health of citizens.
The law forces manufacturers to declare the ingredients of the product on the label, but in many cases, they hide it. In these cases it is a violation of the law, but in cases where children are protected in their products, without the parents knowing what they are buying, it is criminal.
Such is the last case, which the AKU hid as a case, that is, the name of the subject and other data of the product discovered with palm oil, not declared on the label.
AKU blocks 112 kg of " melted baby cheese " for not declaring all the nutritional ingredients on the label. Within the framework of the Work Program on the initiation of investigations in the production, processing and packaging establishments of milk and its by-products, sampling and official controls were carried out in these entities.
From the analysis of the product " melted baby cheese " sampled in the "E" processing plant, it was found to contain vegetable fats, AKU announces.
According to the Alert center, it is about cheese "Bebe EKA" , production of the company " EKA – 2001 ", with Nipt K213070011 and address Rruga e Kavaja, 600 meters from Lapidari i Peza.
AKU inspectors have taken samples to analyze for ingredients, as well as microbiological loads. The latter were analyzed in the laboratory of the Institute of Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine in Tirana and were found to be compliant.
As for the ingredients of the product, the samples were sent to the laboratory of Veterinary Medicine in Skopje (North Macedonia).
This laboratory found out that, in EKA processed cheese (baby cheese), there is the presence of palm oil, undeclared on the label.
The certificate of analysis has the number No. 2023/9/65, testing completion date 13.09.2023 for request number 7884, as well as the notification of subject Eka -2001. This document was recorded in the AKU of Tirana with no. 10419, dated 03.11.2023.
The cheese that resulted with the presence of palm oil under the name "Eka Bebe Processed Cheese" has a production date of 22.08.2023 and a shelf life until 22.02.2024.
Although it is said that the subject has made the notification for the withdrawal from the market of this quantity, and according to the AKU report, 103 pieces x 140 grams were withdrawn from the market and blocked in the subject's premises.
However, the AKU has stopped to analyze a lot with the aforementioned production date and expiration date, but no one guarantees that the previous quantities put on the market and that can easily be found in the markets today, have been completely withdrawn.
AKU was satisfied only with a fine against the subject in the amount of 100 thousand ALL, the product has not been destroyed, but will only be relabeled by the subject and put back on the market, possibly with other production and expiration dates...
