Former football player and sports director Igli Tare appeared today at the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK), where he gave explanations in the framework of the investigations against former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, who is suspected of having committed passive corruption and money laundering, in addition to the criminal offenses of violating equality in tenders for which she was indicted in October last year.

Tare has stated to SPAK investigators that a duplex apartment with an area of ​​103 square meters was purchased by him in Dhërmi in 2018, through a notarial contract and with transactions carried out through the banking system.

He explained that he has had a friendly relationship with Belinda Balluku since childhood, a fact that, according to him, is widely known in Tirana.

Tare has stated that their families also have friendly relations and have been frequenting each other for years.

In this context, he explained that he told his girlfriend that she could use the apartment together with the children during vacation periods.

Regarding the claims of favoritism, Tare has denied any connection to the procedures being verified.

According to him, the procedure mentioned in Albcontrol dates back to 2014 and is unrelated to the current allegations.

"As far as I am informed, this is a procedure from 12 years ago, which is time-barred and has no connection to what is being speculated," he is reported to have stated.

Tare has also expressed the position that accusations cannot be made or the image of a public figure damaged based on unproven suspicions, insisting that every action he took was carried out in accordance with the law.
