Durrës Police have launched investigations against a doctor for negligence in medical treatment, following the death of a patient during surgery.

The police do not disclose the type of intervention, but say it concerns a 54-year-old citizen from the coastal city.

"The Crime Investigation Specialists of the Durrës Police Commissariat referred the materials to the Prosecutor's Office, where the proceedings were initiated in a free state for the offense of "Neglect in Medical Treatment", against citizen I. Sh., 59 years old, resident of Durrës, with the duty of a doctor, after citizen M. Xh., 54 years old, resident of Durrës, lost her life during a surgical intervention in his clinic," the Police announced.

The incident occurred during an operation at the doctor's clinic.

After the initial investigations, the procedural materials were sent to the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Durrës for further investigations.
