The Special Court has sentenced lawyer Radovan Çela to 4 years in prison in connection with the "Toyota Yaris" case.

Çelë's sentence is reduced by 1/3 due to the shortened trial, reducing it to 2 years and 8 months.

A few days ago, the former chief prosecutor of Vlora, Aurel Zarka, was also sentenced by the GJKKO for this case. The latter was sentenced to 4 years in prison and, upon application of the summary trial, the final measure was set at 2 years and 8 months of imprisonment.

Lawyer Radovan Çela is accused of corruption and exercising illegal influence over judicial officials.

According to the indictment, Çela is suspected of offering illegal benefits to influence the decision-making of justice officials.

The criminal case against Zarka, former judicial police officer Eriona Daupaj, lawyer Radovan Çela and businessman Astrit Vladi was sent for trial in early January, while the case was separated to further investigate the prosecutors, judges or other justice officials who allegedly facilitated the charges in these cases. The investigations against Zarka and the other defendants were launched based on data managed by the SKY ECC applications. Of the four defendants, only prosecutor Zarka was initially detained and for this reason his trial was conducted separately. Lawyer Radovan Çela surrendered shortly before, while the other two defendants are still at large.

According to the prosecution, it was proven that the four defendants, in collaboration with each other, on several occasions, offered and promised irregular benefits to exert influence over justice officials; according to the respective episodes and charges for each of them.

In the years 2019–2020 when the illegal actions were committed, Zarka served as a prosecutor in the Vlora Prosecutor's Office, the defendant Eriona Daupaj was a judicial police officer in the former Serious Crimes Prosecutor's Office and then in SPAK, while the defendant Radovan Çela served as the defense attorney of citizen Alfred Vladi in the "Toyota Auris" case - a proceeding that was registered after the seizure at the port of Durrës in June 2018 of 3.4 million euros in cash hidden in two used cars imported from Belgium.
