File 5D/ Court rejects request to separate defendants, group will be tried

The "5D" case will be tried as a group in the usual procedure. The trial panel rejected the request of the four defendants to be separated due to criminal offenses, which means that the entire group will be tried together.

The trial on the merits will begin for the three former directors of the Municipality of Tirana, Redi Molla, Taulant Tusha, Mariglen Qato and Enton Punavija, Julian Zanaj, Albano Janku and Nestor Muhametllari.

Earlier, the trial panel rejected the group's request to be tried in a summary procedure.

The former directors of the Municipality of Tirana were arrested in March 2024 by order of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, as part of the investigations into the "5D" file.

They were placed under "prison arrest" measure, while five other people were placed under "compulsory appearance" measure, specifically Enton Punavija, Julian Zanaj, Albano Janku, Nestor Muhamellari, Deborah Keçi and Englatina Zere.

These last two, along with the members of "KVO", have been separated from this group.

According to Spak, Qato and Molla are the de facto owners of the company "5D", which according to investigations has emerged as the winner in several tenders held by the municipality.

It concerns 11 tender procedures over a period of 6 years, from 2016 to 2022. The company is also known by two different names: "Igor Electric" and "Vas construcion".DO
