A 42-year-old man from Tirana who is suspected by the police of helping citizens from Eastern countries to transport them to the North of the country so that they could safely continue their journey to the EU, insists that the police misunderstood him and that he is simply a person passionate about vehicles.

He says that following his passion, that of traveling to the southeast, he met some strangers on the road with whom he did not hesitate at all, but decided to share the journey by taking them as passengers. The police showed the Si newspaper the justification of the citizen A. F from Puka and living in Tirana, where he justifies the presence of immigrants from Syria who, for him, are just passengers he wanted to save from the high temperatures.

"I have to say that the vehicle I was using today was given to me by a friend of mine at the Train Station, who is called KK. He gave it to me in order to make a trip of my own accord from Tirana to Pogradec and then to Korça" . The person accused of assisting the illegal border crossing tells the police, according to very reliable sources of the "Si" Newspaper:

"On the Pojan-Korçë axis, several people came in front of me and without thinking I stopped next to them, taking them in the vehicle and as they asked me, I would bring them to Tirana". The journey of the lover of expensive cars and Syrians continued without any problems until near a shopping center the police put up a 'Stop Police' sign. "The police checked me and asked me for the documentation for the passengers and after this check they immediately accompanied me to the local directorate", argued the 42-year-old in front of the police agents.

However, the police added to the Si newspaper that they tested the young man on what language he used to communicate with the foreign passengers and what language the suspect speaks or understands. He admits that he does not speak any language, but he understood them with their body language after they explained to him with signs that they wanted to travel to the Albanian capital.

"I don't know any foreign language, but as far as I understood from their gestures and signs, they let me understand that they needed to serve you as a driver and that the destination should be Tirana. However, leaving the blame to chance and his generosity to help strangers, he explains at one point:

"I noticed that one of them had a strong smell and I couldn't bear to travel with him, so I put him in my luggage." The police admit that one of the passengers was hiding inside the trunk, but none of the Syrians have admitted that they knew the driver. According to the police, the young man transported five Syrian and Egyptian citizens, who according to preliminary data contacted the 42-year-old, who undertook to help them even though they did not have a residence permit in Albania.

But the police also add to the Si newspaper that the young man had no intention of continuing the journey to any border point in order to assist illegal border crossing, although the few kilometers he served as a driver kept for the blue uniforms to raise the charge of providing assistance for illegal crossing of the Albanian border./GazetaSi
