According to Judge Charles Smith, some of the Serbs had their nails pulled out and limbs broken as a result of the mistreatment. He said some continue to be in pain today or are unable to walk.
Smith added that many witnesses have also spoken about the long-term consequences, citing depression and sleep problems.
He further said that many of the detained Serbs had been beaten to the point where they could not stand, while some lost their lives as a result of beatings by KLA members. He added that they had also been caused psychological suffering.
