In the investigation into the drug ring that was uncovered last week, detectives spent Monday listening inside the apartment of one of the suspects.

Four defendants appeared before the council chambers on Tuesday. Two requested an adjournment, the other two remain in custody.

Antwerp federal judicial police detectives, who dismantled an Albanian drug organization last week, revealed everything during their investigation.

After the police learned that a 48-year-old man from Berchem, who used the pseudonym Arben L., would be active as a middleman in the drug environment, the Albanian was observed for a long time by specialized detectives.

During the investigation, a burglary was also committed in an apartment suspected to be used by the organization of the Forties.

FGP installed wiretapping equipment. For months, detectives were able to monitor conversations.

Thus, the image was created that " Arben " occupied a key position in the drug world.

"He can be seen as an intermediary in contact with groups from Albania and Latin America for the importation of cocaine, among other things through the port of Antwerp, and with smuggling groups from Europe and even Australia," the prosecutor's office said earlier in a press release.

“ The 40-year-old would coordinate between the various groups responsible for the shipment, delivery and distribution of the drugs. He would offer different ways to smuggle the drugs, could seek help from internal sources, for example, surveillance agents, and would direct the delivery drivers .”

How Gerd "General" Gjinarari was caught in Betweendoor

For months, detectives uncovered the contacts of the man from Berchem. This led, among other things, to two seizures totaling 99 kilograms of cocaine, and the extraordinary “capture” of Gerd “The General” Gjinarari, a fugitive murderer.

Last week, eight suspects were finally arrested in the investigation into the “ Arben ” group. Four of them were detained and appeared in the council chambers in Antwerp on Tuesday.

They confirmed the detention of the two suspects, their lawyers Xavier Potvin and John Maes said .

Lawyers Jan De Man and Francis De Lamper requested a postponement of the boardroom trial of cartoon character 'Arben' and a fourth defendant. They will appear before the council again next week.

Antwerp detectives were in close contact with their counterparts in Albania. This led to the seizure of a shipment of 37 blocks of cocaine with a total weight of 41 kilograms. They were stored in a refrigerated container in the port of Durres in Albania.

The itinerary that he described: Brazil, Morocco, Greece, Albania

The journey began in Itajaí, where the container left Maersk's warehouse, Seara Hub Itajaí, empty on July 14, 2026. On July 29, it entered the JBS Terminais Itajaí terminal, and on August 5, it was loaded onto the MAERSK LOTA / 632N vessel.

The ship departed Itajaí on August 5 at 15:20, thus beginning the main part of the intercontinental voyage. After approximately 20 days of sailing, the MAERSK LOTA arrived at Port Tanger Med, Morocco, on August 24 at 20:58.

In Tanger Med, the container was unloaded and remained in port for about 8 days, before being loaded onto the LUNA MAERSK / 633E vessel on September 1. This vessel departed on September 2 at 04:48, bound for the Eastern Mediterranean.

On September 7, the container arrived in Piraeus, Greece, where it was unloaded from the LUNA MAERSK. After about a day and a half, on September 8, it was loaded onto the feeder vessel K OCEAN / 637N, which departed Piraeus on September 9 at 00:13.

The final destination was Durrës. The feeder K OCEAN arrived at the port of Durrës on 12 September at 17:43. The container was unloaded on 13 September at 11:49, while on 13 September at 23:00 it left the terminal. On 14 September, at 12:35, the final entry into the Durrës terminal was recorded.

From the departure of the first ship from Itajaí, on August 5 at 15:20, to the arrival of K OCEAN in Durrës on September 12 at 17:43, approximately 38 days and 2 hours have passed from the first sea departure to the arrival in the Albanian port.

But the container was not constantly at sea. Along the way, there were stops and operations at the ports of Tanger Med and Piraeus, where it was unloaded and reloaded onto other ships.

Itajaí ???????? → Tanger Med ???????? → Piraeus ???????? → Durrës AL

In total, from leaving the warehouse in Itajaí on July 14 to entering the Durrës terminal on September 14, the journey of this container lasted about 62 days.

Who is Gert Gjinarari, otherwise known as 'The General':

In June, it emerged that the main suspect was in contact with a 52-year-old Albanian man who was internationally wanted for a murder in Italy in 1997.

The Federal Police's Fugitive Active Search Team (FAST) managed to arrest the man. His extradition to Italy is still ongoing.

It's about the notorious Albanian Gert Gjinarari, otherwise known as 'The General'. In 1997, he shot a rival in a hospital in Milan with a pistol hidden among a bouquet of flowers.

Almost thirty years later, now 52 years old, he has been arrested again, this time in Antwerp.

On Wednesday, house searches were carried out in Antwerp, Berchem, Deurne, Kapellen, Brussels, Evere, Sint-Agatha-Berchem and Sint-Joost-ten-Node.

Eight people were arrested, including the so-called middleman, as well as people he allegedly worked closely with.

During the raids, police found, among other things, firearms and various ammunition in hidden compartments, bulletproof vests, jammers, cash, a money counting machine, forged passports and press cards, press machines and molds for making cocaine blocks.

The investigating judge then brought six suspects before the court.

Of these, four people were detained, one person was released on bail and one person was allowed to leave. The judicial investigation by the Antwerp Federal Police, under the direction of the investigating judge, is ongoing.

As part of the investigation, close cooperation was maintained with other countries and Europol. This could result in arrests abroad.

Following the intervention, a shipment of 37 kilograms of cocaine was seized in a refrigerated container in Albania.
