A 5.3-degree earthquake has struck Greece this morning south of Chania.
According to the Institute of Geodynamics, the quake occurred at 7:01 a.m. local time in the sea area, 46 kilometers southwest of Paleochora.
The depth of the quake was 21 km.
An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 on the Richter scale occurred at the same point, according to the Institute of Geodynamics' revised assessment on Saturday afternoon (20/07).
The quake, seismologists said, is characterized as relatively superficial, but its focal depth and the fact that it occurred in an underwater area has been significant, otherwise it would be more noticeable.
