Hashim Thaçi's lawyer, Pierre-Richard Prosper, has described the verdict against his client as a "mockery of justice" and has warned that the defense will appeal the decision.

Prosper claimed that the outcome of the trial was predetermined and accused the Specialist Chambers of "rewriting history", presenting the KLA as an organized structure and attributing, according to him, responsibility to Thaçi.

"This is a dark day for international justice and the end of the tribunals," Prosper said after the verdict was announced.

He said he spoke with Thaçi and will meet him again.

"Thaci is ready to continue fighting for himself and for the people of Kosovo," Prosper said.

According to him, the defense hopes that the verdict will be overturned on appeal, although he warned that the process could take years.

The lawyer also showed his emotional reaction during the moment the verdict was announced, saying that he "hit his head with his fists when the judge uttered the words "In the name of the people of Kosovo"".

Prosper also called for the Kosovo Assembly to review the report with the Specialist Chambers, saying that Kosovo must make "a sovereign decision that is in the best interest of the country."

"If I were an MP, starting tomorrow I would withdraw my support for this court," said Prosper.

The lawyers of the other convicts also announced an appeal of the verdict.
