The government has decided to reactivate the Transparency Board for fuel prices, after the price of diesel has remained above 220 lek per liter for more than two weeks.

The news was announced by the Minister of Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj , who said that the decision is related to a previously determined mechanism for reducing excise duty in the event that fuel prices exceed this level.

"Today we made a decision that we have been discussing for some time to reactivate the Transparency Board for fuel prices. Given that the price for more than two weeks has been 222 lek per liter and given that we made a decision in advance that whenever the price exceeds 220 lek, we will activate a mechanism for reducing excise duty, then the only mechanism through which we could activate the reduction of excise duty was to reactivate the board," said Ibrahimaj, who emphasized that there is no deadline for how long it will last, but emphasized that they will monitor the market.
