After several hours of hearing, the Civil Chamber of the Court of Tirana has partially accepted the request of "Focus Meida Group", regarding the turning off of the broadcast signal of News24 television, the siege of the building and the intervention of the Police and the Army in the personal and professional belongings of journalists.
More specifically, the black squads have decided that "Panorama Group" sh.a, which includes the newspaper and television Panorama, will immediately return the building and journalists will exercise their activity.
This decision was taken because, unlike the News24 television building, the building where Panorama Group was located, had a longer-term lease contract with the Government, which had not yet been completed.
Banning journalists from entering the newsroom has been considered illegal by black squads.
In the decision, it is stated that the premises of Panorama will be used by "Focus Media Group" and it is ordered that the company "KAYO" immediately vacate the premises.
The Court has also ordered that within 48 hours, journalists be allowed access to their work premises to take their personal belongings, as well as to return all belongings, which the day before were illegally taken by army trucks by the company "KAYO", run by Ardi Veliu. The inventory of materials has also been ordered.
But in the meantime, the company "KAYO", in a previous reaction, informed that the materials found inside the premises, after the inventory, were sent to the State Reserves, with the address Bajram Tusha Street, near the former Court of Appeal, Shkozet, Durrës and asked News24 employees to go and pick them up there.
Also in the decision of Judge Alma Kodraliu, the removal of the military base is also ordered, which was one of the basic demands of journalists in this Tuesday's court session.
We remind you that on Saturday morning, the buildings at the former Autotractor plant in Shkoza, where the media group "Focus Media Group" operated, were surrounded by numerous police forces and journalists and other employees were not allowed to enter the newsroom.
Also, the building's electricity was cut off and the signal to News 24 television was removed, which has been without a signal for four days and journalists are on the street.
According to the authorities, for one of the buildings in the former Autotractor plant in Shkoza, the lease contract has been terminated since 2022 and Focus Media Group has lost the trials, while for the building where the newsroom was currently located, the Ministry of Economy claimed that Focus Media Group had unpaid rent obligations.
The government approved on March 12, 2025 a decision that transferred to the state company "KAYO" the ownership of the buildings of the former Tractor Plant, where the activity of production and trade of weapons would be exercised. The company "KAYO" was founded in 2024 and at its head, Edi Rama has appointed the former General Director of the State Police, Ardi Veliu.
The violent intervention with the Police and without respecting the regular legal procedure at the premises of the media group "Focus Meida Group", has been condemned by European and Albanian media freedom organizations, which have considered it an attack on the media, free speech and freedom of the press.
