Since September 9, the Albanian police systems fell prey to cyber attacks which suspended the work of the systems, but the police continued their work by imposing around 25,000 fines during this month.
With the restoration of the systems, citizens will not only pay the fines but also the interest that is not their fault.
If the cyber attacks could not be prevented, the Albanian authorities did not care to mitigate the consequences left behind. Among the most direct effects was the payment of fines imposed for traffic violations. Citizens fined during September not only did not benefit from a 20 percent reduction since they could not pay the fine within 5 days, but they have to pay a late interest due to the malfunctioning of the system.
"I received a fine and checked it several times in the system, but it did not appear. I had no way to pay it", said the citizen.
Tch contacted the traffic police directorate in the state police, who acknowledged this problem, but according to them, not all those who were fined at the time when there was no system suffer the consequences of late interest.
After an agreement with the financial institutions, the fines were paid even though they did not appear in the system only if the fined person had the fine sheet physically.
