Alabar and Auron Tare

Archaeologist and researcher Auron Tare has reacted through a post on social media after the statement of businessman Mohamed Alabbar, who stated that his investment in Albania was a mistake, admitting that he had built too quickly.

In his reaction, Tare brings back attention to the Port of Durres project, emphasizing that it was presented as one of the most ambitious investments in Europe and that the government was fully committed to supporting it.

"Alabbari, the investor who presented himself as the man who would bring Albania one of the most ambitious projects in Europe, today says with his own mouth: 'I made a mistake in Albania,'" writes Tare.

According to him, after this statement, there is a need for a public clarification on the progress of the Port of Durres project and what will happen with this strategic investment.

"The Port of Durres, the country's most important port asset, was entrusted to this gentleman with the promise that a transformative project would be built. Today, after all those promises, the investor himself declares that it was a mistake. Then a simple question arises: where is the government? Who is responsible to the citizens for the fate of this project?", says Tare.

He emphasizes that for a strategic national asset, transparency and accountability are obligations and not choices, demanding that after Alabbar's statement there be an official explanation for the future of the project.

"If big promises are made for a strategic national asset, transparency and accountability are not choices. They are obligations. After this public statement, there must also be a public clarification of what is being done with the Port of Durres. Was it a mistake?" concludes Auron Tare's reaction.
