New changes approved in the law on the State Police have also affected the rank system, a process often discussed within the ranks of the blue uniforms.

Now, police officers will have to wait less time to get promoted. The deadline for moving from "commissioner" to "chief commissioner" and then to "director" has been reduced from 5 to 4 years, with the argument that employees who deliver results should not have to wait long just because of formal procedures, placing more focus on performance at work.

Also, the Director General of Police now has the right to grant promotions even before the deadline, in special cases. As a sign of appreciation for heroic acts, sacrifices or high risk taken in the service of order and the fight against crime, the Chief of Police can reward certain employees with the next rank. The Chief of Police now has legal scope to promote new figures by granting them ranks before the deadline, when this fact is argued with results.

However, clarifications have been made regarding the chiefs of police stations who will be required to hold the rank of "commissioner" or "chief commissioner".

Following the proposal of Socialist MP Bujar Rexha, the majority approved changes to the law on the State Police, aiming to reformat the police rank system.

According to the left, the current competition procedures have become an obstacle to the normal functioning of police structures and have reduced efficiency in the field. /a2
