Publisher Fatmir Toçi recounted his last meeting with academic Rexhep Qosja, who passed away today at the age of 89.
"It is a very great pain. Our connection came through literature almost three decades ago, but it became very strong. A friendly connection, a family connection... We were like members of his family. I met him for the last time a few days before he was hospitalized, 2-3 weeks ago. I met him at his home, in a very serious health condition, after one of his daughters also passed away, which he experienced in an extraordinary way and I think that perhaps this event for the premature loss of one of his daughters may have influenced his spiritual and health condition ," Toçi said on A2CNN.
"Professor Rexhep Qosja, just as he was great in extraordinary dimensions during his life, even at the moment of his passing, at the last moment of his life we had thought of him in this way, this is a legacy left long ago. His essential legacy was precisely this: he wanted the funeral ceremony in his last home to be held only by his small family and to rest next to his wife, who passed away a few years ago. The relationship with his wife was extremely strong, an extraordinary bond as a couple throughout Professor Rexhep's entire life. On June 25, we were preparing to celebrate his 90th birthday, as he deserved for the extraordinary contribution he made to Albanian literature, to the academic field, to Albanian society, to Albanian culture, but also as one of the most active people in the issues of the day, that is, not like many intellectuals who wait to precipitate things and then maintain their positions. Rexhep was the vanguard of all political developments, "culturally, socially, Albanian and with his voice he has been an extraordinary contribution, perhaps even to the orientation of the Albanian world in a difficult period such as the events in Kosovo, the events in North Macedonia, but also in Albania itself after the '90s until today ," added Toçi.
