The family of the late Martin Cani, who was killed a year ago by his peer near Fan Noli School, has welcomed the decision of the Constitutional Court of Albania that declared the closure of the social network TikTok unconstitutional, confirming that the decision had violated freedom of expression.
In an official statement, the family emphasizes that Martini was not killed by TikTok, but by the failure of institutions.
"This decision exposes the hypocrisy of a government that, instead of taking responsibility for its failures, chose to use our son's blood as a pretext for censorship and political maneuvering."
"While the state was busy closing down the applications, its systematic failure continued to produce victims: first a minor in Maliq and most recently another life cut short in Durrës," they emphasize.
"We will not remain silent! We demand justice for Martin and for every other child who fell victim to this rotten system."
We will no longer allow the name of our son, a footballer with dreams and a pure soul, to be used as a shield for your failures.
"Our voice joins every family that sheds tears today. We demand actions, not words! We demand security, not censorship!" - concludes the Cani family's reaction.
The Constitutional Court, today, stated that the interruption of access to TikTok constitutes a restriction of freedom of expression and the press.
According to the Court, the interference was not made by clear law and was not proportionate, even though its purpose, protecting children from negative influences, is considered important in the public interest.
The Constitutional Court stated that the Government's measure cannot replace the responsibility of institutions for the security and protection of citizens.
