Five people from Kosovo have been arrested in Rinas after attempting to smuggle a significant amount of drugs into Albania.

The people who were arrested are Bekim Zenuni, Ferhat Zenuni, Ardian Ismaili, Andi Grabanica and Altin Maqastena.

Police say the seized drugs are suspected of being used as ingredients for the preparation of narcotics.

In total, the border police seized 1,057,840 tablets (medicines) weighing 417.1 kg. In addition, 300,000 euros were found on five people, which one of the arrested had not declared at the Rinas BCP, as well as 6 mobile phones.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Sector, in cooperation with the Customs Investigation Directorate in the Operational-Investigative Department at the General Directorate of Customs and the Rinas Border Police Commissariat, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction in Tirana, is finalizing the police operation codenamed "Transit".

5 Kosovar citizens were arrested in flagrante delicto for attempting to import into the Republic of Albania suspected of smuggling drugs, which are suspected of being used as preparations for the preparation of narcotics.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Sector Services, following information provided by police intelligence that several citizens would be arriving at Rinas Airport, at the entrance to the Republic of Albania, with contraband goods in their luggage, immediately organized the work and, in cooperation with the Customs Investigation Directorate in the Operational-Investigative Department at the General Directorate of Customs and the Rinas Border Police Commissariat, finalized the police operation codenamed "Transit".

During the operation, Kosovar citizens BZ, 45 years old, FZ, 34 years old, AI, 23 years old, AG, 20 years old, AM, 21 years old were arrested in flagrante delicto.

From the search carried out on 14 suitcases (the luggage of the arrested), 1,057,840 suspected smuggled tablets (medicines), weighing 417.1 kg, were found, which are suspected of being used as preparations for the preparation of narcotics.

During the physical search of citizen BZ, the Police found 300,000 euros, which he had not declared at the border.

From the verifications carried out, it is suspected that the 5 arrested were going to import drugs purchased in Jordan into Albania and then into Kosovo.

Medical medications, the amount of 300,000 euros, and 6 cell phones were seized as material evidence.
