Prime Minister Edi Rama says that the agreement to receive immigrants from Italy is in accordance with all international laws. In an interview for Corriere della Sera, Rama assures that there will be no problem for Shengjin.
"No. I remember that we have already welcomed over 4,000 Afghans who fled the brutality of the Taliban. Now, at the end of the bureaucratic process, they find themselves in the US or Canada. This is a feasible operation and we have shown that we are capable", said Rama.
Rama was also asked about the comments of the Italian opposition who called this a new Guantanamo.
"It seems to me an ungenerous comment towards those who were there and suffered in the real Guantanamo. Anyone who comes to Albania for a limited period of time will do so living in the best conditions," he said.
Rama that the Italian government will pay for everything and that Tirana has not asked for anything in return, not even any favors for the path to the EU.
"Nothing. Not only did we not ask for any "quid pro quo", much less economic, but we don't want any. This is not a commercial agreement, but an agreement of brotherhood and closeness", said the Prime Minister.
The head of the Albanian government says that there were other EU countries that requested the same thing, but they were all rejected. He admits that discussions with Meloni started during her vacation in Vlora in August. The same thing has been confirmed by the Italian Prime Minister herself in an interview for "Il Messagero" where she evaluates the behavior of Tirana.
"And it is significant to underline how Tirana, despite not being part of the EU yet, is actually behaving as if it already is, making choices in perfect accordance with those principles of solidarity and cooperation based on the European family" , she said.
Meloni explains to all skeptics that the rights and safety of illegal immigrants who will be housed in Albania are guaranteed by the fact that the centers will be managed by Italy. Moreover, according to her, the conditions are also guaranteed by the fact that Albania is a candidate country for the EU and a member of the Council of Europe.
