The community of the small municipality of Val Vermenagna is still reeling from the murder of Claudio Myrtaj, a 34-year-old Albanian mason who was shot in the head with a pistol bullet on Saturday afternoon (Read more). He was working in a workshop in the center of the village when he was executed under still mysterious circumstances. A job he did in his free time, to help an artisan friend of his, with furniture restoration or woodwork.

On Saturday, November 4, he was there. The tragedy happened when the owner of the workshop left. It was a customer who found him on the ground, with a severe head wound. Claudio was still alive, but in agony.

The prosecutor of Cuneo, Onelio Dodero, confirmed that the killer shot the 34-year-old in the head with a bullet. When the emergency services arrived, the Albanian was still breathing, but unable to speak. He died on the way to the hospital.

According to what the Italian media write, the investigators do not rule out any leads. Nor that of drugs, however the main one is the one related to motives of passion. The prosecution authorities are evaluating every hypothesis to solve the murder of the Albanian. A woman's hand can also stay after the murder.

"It was not a professional shot. We are facing a murder by a dilettante". This is the only statement issued by the head of the Cuneo Prosecutor's office. The authorities have been quite reserved regarding the investigations. So far, no arrest warrant has been issued, while the carabinieri have taken the testimonies of several people, among them that of the Albanian's partner.

The area where the incident took place is not covered by CCTV, however there are several security cameras that are located nearby. The latter have been seized by the authorities.

"He was a good boy", say those who knew him. "It seems that he was killed out of jealousy. What's the point? To die like this at the age of 34. Here in Vernante, something like this has never happened", residents of the area told the neighboring media.

The latter add that everyone knew Claudio, although he had been living in Vernante for a few months. He had previously lived in Caraglio and worked for his cousins' construction company.

"I knew him by sight. Like everyone here in the village", says parish priest Don Luca Lanave. "This is a small and quiet community. Who would have thought that something like this could happen", he adds.

"We are shocked and saddened", says another resident. "In a small community like ours, no one expected it. We are still traumatized, apart from the pain for the victim. It happened in the middle of the center, right below the municipality. I hope the person responsible is caught. I have full faith in the investigators".
