"False" - Lamallari denies allegations of police beating of protester

Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari has reacted to the accusations of lawyer Gentian Serjani, who claims that a protester detained at Police Station No. 3 was raped by the Police and did not receive proper medical treatment despite suffering from epilepsy.

Lamallari has described these statements as "baseless and untrue", emphasizing that the State Police has denied any allegations of violence during the escort of the detainee. According to the minister, supervisory institutions have also initiated verifications on the case.

The Police Supervision Agency (AMP) has opened a verification procedure and is administering the necessary information to clarify the circumstances of the incident. Meanwhile, according to Lamallari, the Ombudsman has also conducted visits and has not reported any problems related to violence or inappropriate treatment.

The Minister warned that if AMP's verifications confirm that the allegations are unfounded, then the State Police will pursue legal steps against the publicly made statements, including referral to the prosecutor's office and the Chamber of Advocates for an ethical-professional assessment of the lawyer.

On the other hand, the lawyer for Niko Qarkaj, one of those detained during the protests near the Parliament, has stated that his client is in serious health condition, with repeated epileptic seizures and on a hunger strike since the moment of his arrest.

He also claims that there were signs of violence during the escort and that the detainee did not receive proper medical assistance.

According to Serjani, official requests for changing the security measure have been submitted and independent institutions have been notified, but without immediate reaction. Investigations and verifications on the case continue by the relevant institutions.
