In complete silence, the Elbasan Court is preparing the release of Damiano Toshi , one of the most well-known names in the criminal world in Korça.

Toshi, who is considered a member of the "5 Shops" gang, is accused of killing two basketball players from the "Skënderbeg" team, Sokol Jahollar, Rafael Rizani , and injuring Julian Beckë on September 3, 2004, near the Sports Palace in Korça.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for the serious crime that shook the country 22 years ago, and the decision was given by the Elbasan Court after the case was transferred for trial to this district due to the unrest in Korça, and was later upheld on appeal.

But, more than 2 years ago, the Supreme Court overturned the life sentence and ordered the Elbasan Court to retry the case of the murder of the basketball players.

But, at a time when dozens of other cases have attracted attention, sources say that the Elbasan Court has accepted Toshi's request for a summary trial, which automatically saves him from life imprisonment.

The judges argued this decision with the fact that he committed the criminal offense before the amendments to the Criminal Code that prohibit summary judgment for this category of criminal offenses.

The Elbasan Prosecution Office has not commented on the issue of the summary trial, but has maintained the request to sentence Damiano Toshi to life imprisonment.

The decision on this matter is expected to be announced on July 7. If the summary trial is finally formalized, one of the emblematic characters in the world of crime and with high social danger will be released./ Vna
