Accused of distributing money to buy votes, Agron Malaj sues Xhelal Mziun

Former mayor of Mati Agron Malaj has sued Democratic Party MP Xhelal Mziu in the Special Anti-Corruption Court for the criminal offense of "Defamation" committed publicly.

The lawsuit came after a statement made by Xhelal Mziu the day before the May 11 parliamentary elections.

An incident occurred in Maqellara on May 10, where Democratic Party supporters stopped a vehicle, claiming that the people in it were distributing money with the aim of buying votes in favor of the Socialist Party.

After this incident, the political leader of the Dibër district of the DP, Xhelal Mziu, accused the SP candidate Agron Malaj, saying that the vehicle that was distributing money was his.

The statement also brought a reaction from Malaj, who denied anything of the sort and called Xhelal Mziu's accusation slander.

The case has been registered in court, and this Monday, Judge Irena Gjoka was appointed by electronic lottery to review the case.

The latter is expected to set a date for the hearing.
